COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Columbia leaders looked for ways to help homeowners dealing with damage from last week's storm.
The storms slammed areas around the city including the Greenview community leaving a trail of debris behind.
Tuesday, City Council talked about ways to help out.
Mayor Steve Benjamin said many across the city are dealing with unique challenges following the storm and their insurance may not hold the answer.
"We are trying to figure out if there is a way we can use previously appropriated community development dollars if we can work together and try to help steady the gap between some things that might not be paid for by insurance," he said.
Benjamin added city staff is working closely with neighbors nonprofits, and volunteers to find ways to help those homeowners.
Also during the budget workshop, councilors worked through budget deliberations. They discussed the hospitality tax revenue, liquor tax rebates, and finding ways to maintain historic homes in the community among other issues.
