COLUMBIA (WACH) â?? A former Columbia police supervisor has filed a lawsuit against Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott.
The suit filed by Andre Williams accuses Scott of setting him up for â??retaliation because of a political vendetta from Scott and (CPD Deputy Chief Reuben) Santiago." In the suit Williams claims the vendetta stems from his opposition to a proposed merger combining the Columbia Police Department and Richland County Sheriff's Department. That proposal ultimately failed.
Williams also accuses Scott of denying his wife Shannon, a veteran CPD officer, for promotions and firing her for false violations to punish Williams and force him out of the department.
Williams is seeking jury relief in an unspecified amount.
Williams sued Scott once before in U.S. District Court for alleged first amendment violations, but that suit was dismissed.
Chief Scott said, as with any pending litigation with Police Department personnel, he has no comment.
