Columbia police set to receive more tasers

Federal grant will pay for new equipment

COLUMBIA-- The Columbia Police Department will soon have more tasers on the force.

The city council will decide whether to accept a $94,000 federal grant for the department today.

The money would pay for 60 new tasers, and all the equipment needed to train the officers.

Police spokesman Brick Lewis says this is a win-win for the department, because they receive the equipment, and the city doesn't have to pay for it.
