Community fired up over SLED, FBI investigation into South Congaree officials

South Congaree's police chief and town administrator are on paid leave after SLED and the FBI arrived at city hall Wednesday with a search warrant.

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- South Congaree's police chief and town administrator are on paid leave after SLED and the FBI arrived at city hall Wednesday with a search warrant.

Police Chief Jason Amodio and town administrator Melisha Shumpert have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Town council met for an executive session Thursday evening, where Mayor Jerry McCormick said it was his call placing the two on leave until council could find out more information about the reasoning behind the search Wednesday.

Members of the community voiced their concerns during the council meeting wanting answers.

However, no one seems to be getting much information at all about the reasoning behind the investigation.

"We do not know what's going on we have very little information so we said it's time to just separate the parties just to give them 100% of the time to prepare themselves, and this would give the town time to work on itself," said Mayor McCormick.
