Columbia, SC (WACH)-- Hundreds of Midlands residents showed their generosity for a young man in need of a kidney transplant.
The Cayce United Methodist Church hosted a cookout and silent auction Friday for Andy Tevepaugh, who found out in June that one of his kidneys was functioning at only 6%.
The event, called Project Andy, also consisted of a bake sale. All of the proceeds go toward medical bills not covered by Medicare.
Andy has been undergoing dialysis every day and said he has had some challenges. But with the community support, he continues to battle.
"It has just been overwhelming. You never know how much you mean to people until something like this happens. There are so many people out there that I don't know that donated and wanted to help. It has been amazing."
Andy plans to get married next spring. If you would like to help, click here.
