Condition upgraded for survivor of family shooting

The husband of a woman charged with killing their two children in Pickens County has been upgraded to serious condition at a Greenville hospital.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- The husband of a woman charged with killing their two children in Pickens County has been upgraded to serious condition at a Greenville hospital.

Authorities say 34-year-old Michael Simpson had been in critical condition at Greenville Memorial Hospital since May 14, when deputies say he was shot in the head by his wife at their Dacusville home.

Investigators say 35-year-old Suzanna Simpson also killed the couple's 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son in their beds that day. She remains in the Pickens County jail without bond.

Suzanna Simpson spent several days in the hospital after crashing a pickup truck into a tree after the shootings. Arrest warrants say she told a hospital room nurse she wanted to kill herself too, but couldn't pull the trigger.
