WESTMINSTER, S.C. (AP) -- Investigators say a South Carolina man has been charged with eight counts of attempted murder after he started shooting at people discussing what they would do after he died.
Oconee County sheriff's deputies on Monday also charged 63-year-old James Webb with unlawfully discharging a firearm into a dwelling. A warrant says Webb fired three rounds of buckshot from a .12-gauge shotgun into the home near Westminster.
No one was hurt. It wasn't known if Webb had a lawyer.
Authorities say several of the targeted victims were drinking with Webb hours before the shooting around 5 a.m. Saturday. The talk included what the targets should do when Webb dies and how they would like to buy his land.
