SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a body found in woods in Spartanburg County was an 18-year-old man killed in a robbery almost five months ago because he had $1,000 in his pocket as he went looking to buy a car.
Sheriff Chuck Wright says his deputies arrested 23-year-old Wade Shippy on Thursday on a murder charge. Investigators say Shippy was the last person to see Antwan Bailey alive around Thanksgiving.
Authorities think Shippy beat Bailey to death as he robbed him, then left his body in a gully. The remains were found by a father and daughter out looking for mushrooms Sunday.
Shippy is being held in the Spartanburg County jail. It wasn't known if he has an attorney.
