Coroner IDs driver in fatal motorcycle crash
COLUMBA, S.C. (WACH)-- Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has released the name of the individual who died as a result of a motorcycle collision that occurred Thursday night.
William James Culpepper,28, of Lexington was the driver of the Harley Davidson motorcycle traveling northbound on South Beltline Boulevard. The collision occurred around 9:15 p.m. when Culpepper's motorcycle left the right side of the roadway and hit a ditch causing him to be thrown from the vehicle.
Culpepper was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
He was transported from the scene by Richland County EMS to Palmetto Heath Memorial Hospital where he died at 10:08 p.m.
An autopsy indicated that the cause of death was due to blunt force injuries.
The SC Highway Patrol continues to investigate this incident.
