CPD arrests man after late-night arson
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - A 60-year-old man has been arrested after intentionally setting a building on fire.
Major Anthony Kennedy is accused of setting multiple items on fire Friday night at 2222 North Main Street. Columbia Fire Department crews noticed smoke at the location while tending to another call.
Columbia Police Department officers were also dispatched to the scene, where Kennedy set multiple items ablaze. Part of the structure at the location suffered smoke and fire damage. No one was in the building during the incident.
A witness alerted CPD with Kennedy's whereabouts after the arson; he was hiding behind an electric fence.
Kennedy faces multiple charges, including third-degree arson, third-degree burglary, drunkenness, and trespassing. He is currently held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
The incident is still considered open, with investigators trying to determine the motive. SLED is also involved in the investigation.
