DARLINGTON, SC (WACH) --It's race week in Darlington and that means fans from all over are converging on the small town, filling its restaurants, hotels and setting up camp.
Cheryl Richardson has been heading to many NASCAR races but the Canadian doesn't mind the more than 20 hour car ride to her favorite track.
"We just love the people here, we love the track, it's just friendly, it's nice," said Richardson.
NASCAR drivers aren't the only ones putting in the mileage at Darlington.
Drivers will race more than 500 miles but fans are driving more than 900 or as Richardson say 1500 kilometers.
"We go to the Blue Jays games or the Toronto Maple Leafs games, you might chat with the people sitting around you, but never know their names or anything," adds Richardson.
She says after one visit to Darlington she knew it was a special place.
After joining a camp fire with neighbors the Richardson's made life long friends.
"We've been meeting them ever since and when they're in Florida we make a special trip over where they are just to make sure we keep in touch.
It's like you don't see them in a year but when we get together it's like we saw them last week," said Richardson
Richardson plans to get many miles out of her week in Darlington, including a stop at a favorite restaurant The Raceway Grill and Thursday's hauler parade, but she really can't wait for Saturday's green flag.
