SUMTER, SC (WACH) - The community packed the Church of the Holy Comforter in Sumter to hear a very touching message on Thursday afternoon.
The Very Reverend Dr. Samy Shehata stopped by the church as the guest speaker of the noon luncheon to explain the Anglican Church, and the role it has played during a difficult time in Egypt.
"It's good to be here", said Shehata. "It's good to see the interest of people to know the situation in Egypt."
Shehata says people are not living comfortably in Egypt due to a lot of corruption.
"Some people are not happy," said Shehata.
With the main focus being religion, Shehata explained the difficult times churches in Egypt could face due to the government and military destroying them.
Associated director of the Church of Holy Comforter, Marcus Kaiser, pointed out the importance of every Christian in the United States knowing beyond American boarders what is happening in the world.
"Father Shehata's talk was very helpful in putting it in context,â?? said Kaiser. "There are people being killed for doing the same things on Sunday morning we do here."
Opened to everyone in the community, the Anglican Church has stood strong through many trials and tribulations the Egyptian culture has gone through.
Shehata says the mission for the Egyptian culture is far from over, indicating the goals they want to accomplish to better the country. He says with many prayers, theyâ??ll soon be able to watch Egypt improve.
