COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - DeAndre Asbury- Heath had a vision as a child to become a professional baseball player.
He's a graduate of Brookland-Cayce High School, and would achieve his dream in 2013.
He's now a member of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and with all the talk of a potential minor league baseball coming to Columbia, Heath says he's in favor.
Let's bring this stadium to Columbia, said Heath.
Growing up, the professional baseball player says he looked up to the two time national champs, the USC Gamecocks.
He adds by bringing a minor league baseball program to downtown, Columbia, not only will economic development come from it, but children in surrounding communities will have more than Gamecock baseball as inspiration to accomplish their dreams.
It can enhance their dreams so they can chase theirs, said Heath. It can spark their dreams so they can reach higher and look up to an idol.
Heath has spoken at two Columbia city council meetings, where he told council members how baseball has helped keep him on top of his academics in school.
I hope it enhances people to look forward to bringing it in to town, because like I said it could spark...It could change the whole prospect of Columbia, said Heath.
Through camps and possibly more council meetings to discuss the baseball project proposal, Heath is hopeful those against the idea will soon come around.
