Deputies: 9-year-old girl ran to neighbors home to report suspicious person

Sheriff James R. Metts says deputies received a call about a suspicious person at a home on Midway Street near South Congaree around 3 p.m. on Thursday from a 9-year-old girl.

LEXINGTON COUNTY (WACH) - Lexington County deputies are investigating a suspicious person report.

Sheriff James R. Metts says deputies received a call about a suspicious person at a home on Midway Street near South Congaree around 3 p.m. on Thursday from a 9-year-old girl.

The girl told deputies a man between the ages of 18 and 25 with brown hair, a mustache and goatee was parked in the driveway of her home in a newer model, 4-door burgundy sedan as she walked home from a school bus stop, according to investigators. The girl says the man got out of the car and started walking toward her, so she ran away through nearby woods to a neighbor's home to call 911.

Deputies say the man was described by the girl as wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes at the time of the incident.

Metts asks anyone who may have witnessed a suspicious person or vehicle in the area matching the descriptions given to contact the sheriff's department at 803-785-8230 or CrimeStoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
