COLUMBIA/NEWBERRY (WACH) â?? A man was arrested after robbing a Wells Fargo in Columbia.
According to Lt. Curtis Wilson, the armed suspect robbed the Wells Fargo Bank at the 9000 block of Two Notch Road around 11am and then fled the scene.
Richland County Deputies chased the suspect towards Newberry County on I-26 and alerted Newberry County Deputies as they approached the county line.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said deputies positioned themselves on exit ramps with tire deflation devices.
A first attempt to stop the suspect's vehicle did not work due to heavy traffic on the interstate.
Foster said deputies shut down the highway and a second set of deputies were positioned near the Main street exit and deployed the tire deflation devices.
Foster said the suspect swerved to avoid the devices and stopped on the shoulder.
Foster said deputies quickly surrounded the suspect and arrested him.
WACH will provide more information once it becomes available.
