Deputies find pounds of marijuana and stolen goods at Branchville property


ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WACH)-- The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Department announced the arrest of a Branchville man in connection to drug-related charges during a stolen property search.

Shakir Koger, was taken into custody after deputies seized more than two and a half pounds of high-grade marijuana Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announced a Branchville man has been arrested on drug-related charges during the course of a stolen property search.

“We were conducting a search in unrelated cases involving more than 100 warrants served on three men who had been stealing dozens of yard equipment-related items for the past three months,” he said. “During that recovery effort, we ran across this individual," said Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.

The 33-year-old is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.

Bond was set on Koger at $30,000 during a hearing on Tuesday.

Investigators located Koger on the property of a home on Stephens Street in Branchville while executing a search warrant.

Inside a vehicle in plain view was an opened backpack that appeared to contain marijuana.Upon looking further inside the bag deputies found a loaded handgun and several grams of marijuana worth a conservative $12,000.

Investigators went on to locate several stolen electronics and equipment related to a string of thefts in which three suspects have been arrested and charged.

The arrests of the trio in the theft-related incidents closed at least 20 cases.

Deputies continue to investigate this case.
