Deputies make arrests in Alcott Drive shooting

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Three men are under arrest in connection to a Thursday afternoon shooting on Alcott Drive.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department says Rashad Bright, 22, Shyking Sermon, 21, and Herbert Smalls, 20, are all charged with armed robbery.

At about 3 p.m. Thursday, Richland County deputies responded to a shots fired call at Hillandale Apartments on Alcott Drive. Deputy Curtis Wilson says a man was shot in the upper body.

As deputies arrived at the scene, a car was leaving with three people, including the man who was shot, inside. They stopped the car and the man was transported to a local hospital by EMS where he is still in serious condition.

Sheriff Leon Lott says investigators were able to determine that the man who was shot, along with Sermon, Bright, and Smalls, were attempting to rob a female victim and another person of drugs outside an apartment.

Sheriff Leon Lott stated that the investigation continues and additional arrests are forthcoming.

Sermon, Bright, and Smalls have been transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
