RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) -- Officials say one person is dead and another is recovering after a shooting that happened in the front yard of a northeast Richland County home daycare.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department says they responded 1612 Summit Ridge Drive for a report of shots fired Tuesday morning. They arrived to find 18-year-old Henry Ellison dead after shooting himself in the front yard.

Ellison's 21-year-old girlfriend, Kiara Smith, was found inside the residence with a gunshot wounds. She drove herself to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident took place in a quiet suburban neighborhood that, officials say, rarely sees crime near Lake Carolina in the home where a daycare was being operated. Investigators say children were inside at the time the shooting took place outside the home. No other injuries were reported and parents were contacted while officials took care of the children.

The girlfriend was working at the daycare at the time, according to authorities.

A parent picking up her child says Ellison was the daycare owner's son.

The investigation continues and WACH Fox News will bring you the latest as it becomes available.

Richland County officials also released the names of the couple involved in what they're calling a murder-suicide that took place Monday off Alpine Road.
