Deputies: Sumter woman arrested after setting home on fire with family inside
SUMTER, SC (WACH) - A Sumter County woman has been arrested after police say she attempted to burn down her home with family members inside.
According to Sumter County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Ken Bell, 67- year-old Willie Mcquilla has been charged with one count of arson and three counts of attempted murder.
Officials say just before 5:00 Saturday afternoon, the fire department received a call about a house fire. Deputies say it didn't take long for calls to come in identifying Mcquilla as the suspect.
Bell says a deputy recognized Mcquilla and stopped to question her. She reportedly admitted to setting the house on fire and barricading the doors.
Family members were able to escape without injury.
Mcquilla is being held in the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
She is scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday morning.
