Deputies take son into custody in connection with double homicide

Fairfield County deputies are on the scene of what they call a double homicide.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, SC (WACH) - Fairfield County deputies are investigating a shooting that left two people dead Monday morning.

Chief Deputy Keith Lewis with the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office said early Monday, the bodies of Richard Mahorsky, 71, and Ruth Marion Mahorsky, 70, were found at a home near Salem Crossroads in western Fairfield County.

Deputies were notified Monday by a concerned co-worker of Ruth Mahorsky after she didn't show up for work Monday morning.

Fairfield County deputies went to the Mahorskys home on Highway 215. Once they arrived, they found the woman dead in her yard.

Deputies went onto the property and found the body of Richard Mahorsky also in the yard. Both had gunshot wounds to the head. The deputies entered the home where they found the couple's son, Matthew Mahorsky, 40. He was taken into custody as a person of interest.

Authorities believe the couple was shot with a high-powered rifle.

Lewis says in 2004 deputies went to the home for a disturbance call between the son and the father.

State Law Enforcement Division and the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office are continuing the investigation.
