Driver killed after driving in the wrong direction on I-77 identified
CAYCE, S.C. (WACH) -- The person killed after traveling on the wrong side of the road on Interstate 77 Thursday night has been identified.
According to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, 40-year-old Lisa Marie Hough was killed after her car hit another car in the northbound lane. The car then veered into the southbound lanes where it collided head-on with another car.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. the Cayce Departement of Public Safety responded to the area of the I-77 exit ramp at Charleston Highway and Fish Hatchery Road for a report of a major traffic collision involving an entrapment.
Upon arrival, it was discovered that a 2009 Nissan made a left turn from Charleston Highway onto the I-77 exit ramp going in the wrong direction.
The Nissan hit a Chevrolet SUV at the intersection and fled the area at a high-rate of speed and continued going the wrong direction on the exit ramp.
The Nissan then struck a 2012 Dodge 4500 truck almost head-on disabling both vehicles.
Upon arrival officers and EMS determined that Hough had been fatally injured in the collision.
No one else was injured in this incident.
