Driver dies after driving wrong way on I-26, colliding with tractor-trailer
LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) —
An individual driving west in the eastbound lane of I-26 died early Sunday morning after colliding with a tractor-trailer.
According to Lance Corporal Matt Southern with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 3 a.m. near mile marker 119. The accident involved a 1999 MAC tractor-trailer and a 2016 Hyundai.
According to LCpl. Southern, the Hyundai traveled west in the eastbound lane of I-26 and collided with an eastbound tractor-trailer. Both vehicles went off the right side of the road and caught fire.
The crash killed the driver of the Hyundai, who has not been identified. The Lexington County Coroner's Office will release the identity after the next of kin is notified.
The incident remains under investigation by SCHP.
