Drug charges for Morgan Roof reinstated after summons mix-up
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)-- Morgan Roof, sister of Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof, had her drug charges reinstated Monday.
Morgan was charged with two counts of carrying a weapon on school grounds and simple possession of marijuana after she reportedly brought a knife, pepper-spray and marijuana to school in March.
She appeared before a judge where a bond of $5,000 was set for her weapons charges however her drug charges were dropped after the prosecuting officer did not appear for the court hearing.
According to the Richland County Sheriff's Department, Morgan's charges were reinstated after it was determined that the summons from the Magistrates office was sent to the wrong deputy therefore the prosecuting deputy was not aware of the court hearing.
Once aware of the error a motion was filed to reopen the case therefore the charges still stand.
This all stems from a social media post made by Morgan on Snapchat that stated she hoped that the students at A.C. Flora High School got "shot" on National Walkout Day.
She was immediately arrested by the school's SRO for violating school policy.
