Duke Scholar discusses Emancipation Proclamation

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A Duke University scholar is offering a lecture on the Emancipation Proclamation to open a series of lectures on the Civil War at the University of South Carolina.
The lecture is being delivered by Thavolia Glymph, a professor of African and African-American Studies at Duke. University spokeswoman Peggy Binette says Thursday's talk begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Campus Room of Capstone House.
Other lectures will include talks on military strategies, the role of diarist Mary Chesnut and the impact of the battle of Gettysburg. They are being hosted by historian Walter Edgar.
