Early incident at Chappells recycling center was not a criminal matter

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Officials say that the early afternoon incident at the Chappells recycling center is not a criminal matter and the community is in no danger.
The attendant approaching the center found an unresponsive man behind a vehicle that was blocking the gate. The attendant called 911 and requested assistance from Chapppells Rescuesâ?? and EMS. Upon arrival, first responders found a single gunshot won to the head a small pistol in the manâ??s hand.
The man was transported to Chappells Fire Department and then a Columbia area hospital.
Investigators from the Newberry County Sheriffâ??s Office have determined that the wound was self-inflicted. The recycling center is open for business and there is and was no danger to the community.
