Early morning blaze rips through apartment off Garners Ferry

Over 25 Columbia-Richland firefighters responded to an apartment fire off Garners Ferry early Friday morning.

      COLUMBIA (WACH)â??Over 25

      Columbia-Richland firefighters

responded to an apartment fire off Garners Ferry early Friday morning.

According to C.F.D. spokesman Brick Lewis, fire crews were dispatched at about 2:45 a.m. to the

      Wellington Farms

apartment complex on Greenlawn Drive, just off Garnerâ??s Ferry Road. When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke and fire coming from one of the apartment buildings.

Lewis said that a second alarm was activated to help bring the fire under control. He said that there was only 1 minor injury to a resident, who was treated on the scene.

Wellington Farms Property Manager Ashley Wood said her first concerns include making sure all the residents are accounted for, and making arrangements for those displaced to stay in a nearby hotel that â??doesnâ??t smell like smoke.â??

According to Anna Kate Twitty, the American Red Cross is also on the scene to tend to any immediate needs of those impacted by the fire.

Lewis estimated the damage to be nearly $750 thousand dollars.

The cause of the blaze is now under investigation.
