Election process accelerated due to Metts trial, retirement

The Jame Mettsâ?? trial has left an opening for Lexington County Sheriff, as interim sheriff, Lewis McCarty has no interest in running for the position permanently.


COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - The James Mettsâ?? trial has left an opening for Lexington County Sheriff, as interim sheriff, Lewis McCarty has no interest in running for the position permanently.


Lexington County Elections Director, Dean Crepes, has announced the date that candidates can file for the position will begin January 2 and end January 12 and all candidates must post a $1,917 filing fee.


The date set for any necessary primaries will be held March 3 to determine a party(s) nomination(s), with any necessary runoffs being held March 17.


The special election is set to be held April 21, 2015 to name the new Lexington County Sheriff.


Although a few candidates have announced their intentions on running for the position, no candidate is official until the January 2 filing date.
