Ex-McCain SC director joins Haley gov campaign

COLUMBIA (WACH, AP) -- The former South Carolina director for John McCain's presidential campaign has joined Nikki Haley's gubernatorial campaign staff.

Trey Walker said Wednesday he is now the Haley campaign's senior adviser.

The 43-year-old Walker has been Attorney General Henry McMaster's chief executive assistant since 2003. Walker ran McMaster's 2002 and 2006 campaigns and headed McMaster's unsuccessful 2010 Republican gubernatorial bid.

Walker was McCain's national field director in 2000. After serving as state director for McCain's 2008 South Carolina primary win, Walker ran the campaign's mid-Atlantic operations.

Walker also has served as the South Carolina Republican Party's executive director. The 1989 University of South Carolina graduate is married with two children.

Haley faces Democrat Vincent Sheheen and third party candidate Morgan Reeves in November.
