SC mom charged with arson, murder after fire killed husband, 2 kids
FAIRFIELD COUNTY, S.C. (WACH) - The Fairfield County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in the fatal house fire that claimed the life of a father and two children.
Sharon Coleman, 34, of Winnsboro, has been charged with arson first-degree and three counts of murder.
This arrest is the result of an investigation of a house fire that occurred early Sunday morning, in which Coleman's husband and two children died.
Fairfield County Coroner Chris Hill released the names of the three individuals: 29-year-old Justin Wilson, 8-year-old Kenya Coleman and 6-year-old Deshawn Wilson.
Autopsies indicated that carbon monoxide poisoning and thermal burns were the main causes of death.
Sheriff Will Montgomery released a statement stating that the case remains active: “Based on this investigation, Ms. Coleman has been arrested for Arson- 1st Degree and 3 counts of murder. This is still an active, on-going investigation and we are limited on what information we can release at this time. We want to continue to remember those affected by this tragic event and to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.”
Family members who were at the scene Sunday afternoon say Justin was just about to celebrate his 30th birthday on May 21.
The fire occurred around 3:30 a.m. Sunday on the 100 block of Robinson Avenue.
Coleman was transported to the Fairfield County Detention Center where she is awaiting bond.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) continues to investigate this case as it is still active.
