      Family Dollar robbery suspect arrested

      RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) - A man accused of reaching into a Family Dollar store register, stealing money and assaulting the store clerk has been arrested.

      Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says Warren McDaniels, 45, was arrested around 6:15 p.m. Sunday on Hoyt Street after the sheriff's department received tips through CrimeStoppers.

      McDaniels is accused of robbery and simple assault in connection with an incident that occurred on Saturday, July 28 at a Family Dollar store on Decker Blvd.

      The suspect in the incident, who deputies believe is McDaniels, entered the business and was paying for an item. As the clerk was placing the suspects money into the register, the suspect reached over the counter into the register drawer, according to Lott.

      The store clerk faught back, slapping ans winging her hands at the suspect.

      Lott says the investigaton is ongoing and additional arrests are forthcoming.

      McDaniels was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
