Lexington, SC (WACH)-- Former Carolina Panthers running back Stephen Davis was in a Lexington County court Thursday morning.
Davis was arrested Wednesday for operating the Pure Ultra Lounge in Columbia without a business license by the state Department of Revenue. His prior license was revoked in July 2012.
The Irmo man was charged with two fraudulent checks more than $1,000 each; and a third bad check worth less than $500. He faces a $10,000 bond, despite a plea from his attorney Joenathan Chaplin.
"He is an entrepreneur. He has been a resident of Richland County for approximately 11 years. Being that he has an established business, established residence, no other issues before the court, I am asking for a personal recognizance bond," said Chaplin.
That request was denied. Davis's court date is set for October 3 and December 6.
The Spartanburg native spent 11 seasons in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers and Washington Redskins, and St. Louis Rams. He was inducted to the South Carolina Hall of Fame earlier this year.
