      Former SC deputy accused of sex crime with student while working as school resource officer

      State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry says Larry Heyward, 52, was arrested in January and is been charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and misconduct in office.

      HAMPTON COUNTY (WACH) - A former Hampton County deputy is accused of inappropriately touching a male student while employed as a school resource officer.

      State Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry says Larry Heyward, 52, was arrested in January and is charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and misconduct in office.

      According to Berry, the arrest stems from a SLED investigation requested by the Hampton County Sheriff's Department.

      The arrest warrant states on or about September 2011, Heyward is accused of touching a male student in a sexual manner while on duty as a school resource officer. The victim was under 16 years of age.

      Heyward was booked at the Hampton County Detention Center. As of Thursday night, he had been released.
