Sun, 17 Aug 2014 17:19:47 GMT — CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- A former South Carolina football player is charged with assault and battery after police say he punched a man in the face and left him in a Charleston hospital with a fractured skull. Local media report that a judge set a $20,000 bond for 27-year-old James Hutton of Greenville, who was released from jail Saturday. The South Carolina athletics website says Hutton was a walk-on fullback for the Gamecocks in 2006 and 2007. He has no listed telephone number and could not be reached for comment Sunday. Hutton is accused of punching 26-year-old Billy Schilling, who was on a date with his wife when he was punched last week. Police say Schilling was knocked unconscious by Hutton's alleged blow to the face and hit his head on the sidewalk.
