COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)-- A former state trooper was arrested Wednesday and charged with reckless homicide after he collided with a vehicle killing one woman.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department arrested 28-year-old Brandon Norton and charged with him with reckless homicide.

The Sheriff stated that just before 6 p.m. on July 13, Norton was traveling 80 MPH in a 40 MPH zone at Heyward Brockington and Monticello Roads.

Norton reportedly disregarded a stop sign when he collided with a minivan while in his patrol car.

The 77-year-old driver was transported to Palmetto Health Richland and was released three days later. However, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts confirmed that the 81-year-old passenger Rigba Wolfe died thirty-seven days later as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Norton was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and received a $50,000 PR bond.
