      Former US ambassador to Nigeria, Congo at Furman

      The former U.S. ambassador to Nigeria and the Congo Republic is speaking at Furman University about Africa's future.

      GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- The former U.S. ambassador to Nigeria and the Congo Republic is speaking at Furman University about Africa's future.

      Robin Sanders' lecture is titled "Africa 2013: The Way Ahead." It is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in Shaw Hall of Younts Conference Center. The event is free to the public.

      The private college says Sanders will be on Furman's campus throughout the week as a Woodrow Wilson visiting fellow.

      She was the U.S. ambassador to Nigeria from 2007 to 2010. She was previously the ambassador to the Republic of the Congo from 2002 to 2005. She has twice served as the director for Africa at the National Security Council at the White House.

      Her awards include the Joint Chiefs of Staff Civilian Honor Award.
