While active duty military and essential personnel are still getting paid, those considered non-essential employees are not.
And that is leaving hundreds of Fort Jackson employees temporarily out of work.
"There are approximately 3,500 civilian workers there who are non-essential personnel and approximately 25% of those - so 900 employees - have been furloughed as a result of the shutdown." says Holt Chetwood from the Columbia Chamber of Commercee.
WACH Fox attempted to get in contact with Fort Jackson, but Fort Jackson officials are not able to comment on the furlough at this time.
