Frigid record set on Friday

Columbia (WACH/NWS) -- A record temperature was set on Friday, but itâ??s not the kind of record one might think.

The coldest high temperature for January 24th was 34 degrees which was occurred in 1963.

That record fell on Friday as the warmest it got at Columbia Metropolitan Airport was 33 degrees at 3:59 p.m.

A warming trend will occur over the weekend as highs climb into the low to mid 50s across the Midlands.

The warm-up will be short as another blast of arctic air moves in early next week.
