COLUMBIA (WACH)"Gas prices are on the decline this week in the Columbia area, according to www.gasprices.com, 4.2 cents in the last week to an average of $3.02 per gallon Sunday. The national average is also down 4.3 cents to $3.23 per gallon.
The average price for a gallon of gas in the Midlands Sunday was 23.6 cents more than on the same day last year. Nationally, gas is 26.4 cents more than a year ago.
According to www.GasBuddy.com TMs Patrick Dehaan, although the decrease is relief for motorists, going on to say I TMll unpleasantly remind them that gasoline prices will still set record highs this Christmas across much of America- motorists have never seen average prices this high on Christmas.
DeHaan also pointed out that summer gas prices tend to be 80-120 cents per gallon high in summer, which may be setting up what he calls a troubling start to 2012.
