Gas prices fall in the Midlands

COLUMBIA (WACH)"Gas prices are on the decline this week in the Columbia area, according to, 4.2 cents in the last week to an average of $3.02 per gallon Sunday. The national average is also down 4.3 cents to $3.23 per gallon.

The average price for a gallon of gas in the Midlands Sunday was 23.6 cents more than on the same day last year. Nationally, gas is 26.4 cents more than a year ago.

According to TMs Patrick Dehaan, although the decrease is relief for motorists, going on to say I TMll unpleasantly remind them that gasoline prices will still set record highs this Christmas across much of America- motorists have never seen average prices this high on Christmas.

DeHaan also pointed out that summer gas prices tend to be 80-120 cents per gallon high in summer, which may be setting up what he calls a troubling start to 2012.
