CryptoLocker Malware a new unbeatable threat?

Virus and malware infections are commonplace, making life tough for computer users worldwide. But now a new breed of Ransomware is proving to be impossible to thwart. Cryptolocker not only hijacks your computer, but it also encrypts important information, and gives you a short windows to pay for the decryption key.

With other ransomware, you can remove the malware, and go about your business?| or worst case, backup your data and start fresh.

With CryptoLocker the virus encrypts all your documents, then locks your system down, giving you a couple days to pay the ransom of $300.00 for the decryption key. If you don't pay, or remove the malware, the key is deleted, and your data is effectively unrecoverable.

You can set a policy on your machine to prevent infection. You can also avoid infection entirely by staying away from suspicious emails. Especially ones with attachments. Also, stay away from adult websites, gambling, and illegal download sites, as these seem to be key places for infection.

Shut your computer down immediately, and get the machine to someone you trust. There are certain instances where you can get to older versions or backed up versions of your data if you act fast, and act carefully. If you have important data, you need to take precautions immediately. One way to help protect data is to employ a cloud backup strategy like Dropbox, that also supports revisions.
