COLUMBIA (WACH)- The man Columbia Police say shot a USC student in Five Points in October was indicted by a Richland County Grand Jury last week.
Michael Juan Smith is accused of shooting 18-year old Martha Childress. The fifth circuit solicitor's office said he now officially faces attempted murder charges. Police say another man was Smith's intended target, but a stray bullet hit Childress, leaving the USC freshman paralyzed from the waist down.
Smith was in Federal Court today to answer to weapons charges.
