Morgan Reeves picketed in Columbia on Wednesday, demanding that Thurmond's name be removed from the building and from most other buildings and parks across the state. A handful of supporters attended carrying three signs.
Reeves says there's a direct connection to Thurmond's racist comments more than 60 years ago when he ran for president as a Dixiecrat, and Reeves' treatment as a third-party gubernatorial candidate.
The African-American candidate says he is being discriminated against by not getting the same attention as Republican Nikki Haley and Democrat Vincent Sheheen. Reeves is also upset with black politicians and ministers.(Copyright 2010 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
