Greenville woman pleads in 2-year-old's death

COLUMBIA (AP)--A Greenville woman has pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the death of a 2-year-old girl last year.

Lavonda Maxwell entered the plea in Greenville on Wednesday and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Samauri Mayes was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital on New Year's Eve in 2008 with massive head injuries. The child was taken off life support several days later.

Police say Maxwell was Mayes' legal guardian at the time.
