COLUMBIA (WACH)- Sumter Police are investigating the discovery of a grenade found at a Sumter charity store.
Sumter Deputy Police Chief Alvin Holston said the grenade was found yesterday in a box of donated goods at a Goodwill store on Broad Street in Sumter. An employee was going through a box of donated goods when the grenade was found.
Sumter Police called in an explosive device team from Shaw Air Force Base to remove the grenade. Holston believes the grenade was placed in the donation by mistake, He wasn't sure if the grenade was armed or disarmed. He doesn't believe it was left there maliciously.
