Group of pastors admonishes SC Senate for abortion ban fail
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A group of pastors has admonished South Carolina state senators for failing to pass legislation that would have banned virtually all abortions in the state.
The South Carolina Pastors Alliance held a press conference Wednesday in the Statehouse calling out senators who failed to pass the personhood bill that stipulated life begins at conception and an embryo would have all the rights of a citizen.
Senate lawmakers also failed to pass the dismemberment bill that would have banned abortions except in cases of incest, rape or mother's risk to life. The measure failed when Democrats held the Senate floor during an hours-long filibuster earlier this month.
Alliance Executive Director Mike Gonzalez said lawmakers visit their churches looking for votes but fail to apply their self-proclaimed Christian principles at work.
