CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- In a reversal of four years ago, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce is endorsing Gov. Nikki Haley in this year's gubernatorial race.
The Republican governor is traveling across the state Thursday appearing with business leaders to announce the endorsement by the chamber that represents more than 18,000 businesses. The chamber says it is endorsing Haley because of her commitment to making job creation and economic development top priorities.
Four years ago, the chamber endorsed Democrat Vincent Sheheen, whom Haley meets in November in a rematch of their 2010 race.
Sheheen said in a release the chamber announcement isn't surprising and reflects a trend in chamber decision making favoring big, out-of-state corporations at the expense of small businesses.
