Haley to run first state financial board meeting

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley takes command of her first meeting of the board that oversees the state's finances and much of its bureaucracy.

The five-member Budget and Control Board meets Thursday afternoon to select a new executive director and a new chief of staff.

Current director Frank Fusco announced his resignation Friday. Fusco is 62 and said it was a good time to retire after 37 years in state government.

Haley is the board's chairman, and she chose Eleanor Kitzman to replace Fusco. Kitzman was the director at the Insurance Department from 2005 to 2007.

Chief of staff Eddie Gunn resigned Friday and Haley wants to replace him with state Department of Motor Vehicles director Marcia Adams.

Board members already say they support Haley's picks.
