COLUMBIA (WACH, AP) -- Former Democratic leader Dick Harpootlian announced Thursday that he will again run for Chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party.
Harpootlian announced his plans Thursday and planned to talk to the state Democratic Party's executive committee later in the day. In a release Harpootlian said he is running to hold Republicans accountable for what he calls a 20-year record of failure in South Carolina.
"I'm outraged that Republicans like Nikki Haley and Ken Ard continue to get away with not telling the truth and breaking the law," Harpootlian said in a release. "Voters need to realize that if they don't like government it's because they don't like Republican government."
Harpootlian has been a high-profile spokesman for South Carolina Democrats even after leaving office and is known as the party's biggest flamethrower.
Harpootlian said if elected he will only serve a single two year term. Harpootlian previously served as state party chair from 1998 to 2003.
Democrats elect a new chair at their April 30 convention as Carol Fowler steps down after two terms.
