COLUMBIA (WACH / AP) ?? A truck traveling in the wrong direction on I-26 claimed the lives of 2 people Wednesday night near Broad River Road.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol , at about 9:26 p.m., a 2004 GMC pick-up was traveling west in the eastbound lane, when it struck head-on a 1989 Toyota pick-up heading east.
Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt, and both were killed in the collision.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts has identified the drivers as Marcus G. Hicks, 50, of Irmo and Nathon R. Yon, 39, of Newberry.
Watts says Hicks was triving the pickup truck.
The Highway Patrol is trying to figure out why Hicks was heading the wrong direction.
