High schoolers repair home of needy family

The students are replacing the shingles on the roof of the home, building a wheelchair-friendly ramp for the family to enter and exit their home, and repairing holes in her floor.

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Ben Lippen high schoolers are spending their days this week helping give back to the community.

About a dozen students are spending three full days repairing the home of a women who recently became wheelchair-bound from a spinal injury.

They are replacing the shingles on the roof of the home, building a ramp for her to enter and exit her home, and repairing holes in her floor.

"It's really a nice feeling just to help other people, and thinking that we are being useful and [making] other people happy," said Lilly Nguyen, a senior at Ben Lippen.

The home repair project is part of the students' Winterim program at Ben Lippen School.
