Hundreds of South Carolina school children took a vacation day to get ready for school, gathering supplies and getting haircuts and dental checks at the annual Hootie and the Blowfish Homegrown Roundup.Related Stories SC State Fair announces music lineup Blowfish guitarist teaching SC college course Hootie honored for work with SC public schools
The band mates met with reporters then walked through the auditorium of Burke High School in Charleston to greet parents and students on Wednesday.
The Roundup includes goods and services provided by almost 40 sponsors.
Wednesday night the band plays its annual homegrown concert at the Family Circle Cup tennis stadium on Daniel Island where money for more school supplies will be raised.
The band started its efforts back in 2003 because of budget cuts in education. At that first concert, a 55-foot school bus was filled to the top with school supplies.
